I have a small apartment in a in a retirement community. For an additional fee, aides help me with various things I have difficulty with on my own, given some physical limitations associated with a past stroke. The administrator in charge recently asked, “Are the girls, aides, who I’m sending, fullfilling your needs?” I think what she meant to ask is –Are they providing sufficient help to prepare you for sleep? This would consist of handing me my nightly anti- epileptic pills, applying enough cream to a super dry skin, turning off the lights and seeing that the windows are sufficiently open. Aides also give me medication at noon, get my lunch for me, keep my apartment tidy and assist with other tasks that are difficult for me. Yes, they do all this quite well.
But, I had just heard Obama’s acceptance speech for the presidential nomination, and I had been thrilled and left elated; I wanted to share these emotions and hopes with someone, beyond my pillow. Did all this mean a promising, joyous future for our grandchildren and a promising dignified one for ourselves? I wanted contact with a senior like myself to share these thoughts with, preferable, a female, but not provided obviously by the retirement facility. I suppose this would be more in the category of a desire rather than a need? Or am I just a crazy, old————————————-; have fun by filling in the blank space yourself. From Howard
